The Mumbai Crime Branch arms seizure took place on 22 May 2026 near St George Hospital, close to P D’Mello Road, according to a police press note.
Crime Branch Unit 1 reportedly received information that members linked to an Iranian-origin gang were arriving to sell illegal firearms and live cartridges in South Mumbai.
Acting on the information, officers laid a trap near the public toilet on the route toward Eastern Freeway, close to St George Hospital.
Police said three male accused, aged 24, 34, and 24, were detained at the spot. Their names were not mentioned in the press note.
Firearms And Cartridges Recovered
According to the Crime Branch, the team recovered two pistols, one magazine, and 45 live cartridges from the accused during the operation.
Police said the accused allegedly possessed the weapons illegally and were suspected of preparing to sell them in Mumbai.
The case has been registered at the MRA Marg Police Station, Mumbai, under relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
The press note states that accused numbers one and two had earlier criminal records since 2022, including offences involving murder.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Anil Kumbhare, and Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime, Krishnakant Upadhyay.
The action was also supervised by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Detection, Raj Tilak Roshan, and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Detection-1, Satyanand Rahate.

Full Crime Branch Team Named
The team included Senior Police Inspector Ghanshyam Nayar, Police Inspector Sunil Pawar, Assistant Police Inspector Vishal Mohite, Rupesh Patil, and Police Hawaldar Vijay Shedkar.
Other personnel named were Vipin Nikam, Mahesh Mulke, Pramod Shinde, Kailas Chougule, Amol Todkar, Sandeep Patil, and PSI Kailas Jadhav.
The team also included Kiran Bansode, Kiran Sonkambale, Police Hawaldar Sai Kadam, Police Constable Jagdish Kohli, and Jamil Shaikh.
From the special squad, the note names Police Hawaldar Amit Chaudhary, Atish Thorat, Police Constable Santosh Waghmare, Utkarsh Kadam, Nirank Kute, Prathamesh Utekar, and Police Constable Santosh Berad.
