The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration conducted a raid at a Patanjali Chikitsalaya and Ayurvedic Super Mart in Wardha, seizing Ayurvedic medicines worth ₹44,781. Officials alleged that certain product labels contained claims that may violate regulations governing misleading medicinal advertisements. The inspection was carried out as part of the FDA’s ongoing enforcement drive under Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. Authorities clarified that the action relates to regulatory compliance concerning product claims rather than the sale of Ayurvedic medicines. The seized stock remains under official custody while further examination and legal proceedings continue.
Patanjali Store Raid in Wardha: Drug Stock Seized Over Alleged Misleading Claims on Ayurvedic Medicine Labels
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Wardha has seized Ayurvedic medicines worth ₹44,781 from a Patanjali Chikitsalaya and Ayurvedic Super Mart after officials reportedly found label claims that allegedly violated provisions governing misleading medicinal advertisements.
The Wardha Patanjali raid has emerged as the latest enforcement action by Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration, led by Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, as authorities intensify scrutiny of products and promotional claims in the healthcare sector.
According to officials, a stock of Ayurvedic medicines valued at ₹44,781 was seized during an inspection conducted at Patanjali Chikitsalaya and Ayurvedic Super Mart located near the Mahilashram area on the Wardha–Sevagram Road. The action was taken after authorities reportedly identified statements and claims on product labels that contravened legal provisions on misleading medicinal advertisements.
The inspection was carried out by officers of the Food and Drug Administration on Monday afternoon. During the verification process, officials examined multiple Ayurvedic products available for sale and reportedly observed claims on certain labels that were considered inconsistent with applicable regulatory requirements.
Authorities stated that the products in question were associated with Divya Pharmacy and Patanjali Ayurved Private Limited. The seized stock has been taken into official custody while further legal and regulatory proceedings continue.
Regulatory Scrutiny Intensifies Under Tukaram Mundhe
The enforcement action has attracted attention because it involves products linked to Patanjali, one of India’s most recognised Ayurvedic and consumer wellness brands. Officials emphasised that regulatory compliance requirements apply uniformly across all businesses regardless of their market presence or brand recognition.
The establishment where the inspection was conducted is reportedly owned by Sandeep Panpalia. During the inspection, manager Sumit Sahu was present and assisted officials with the verification process, according to information released by the department.
Food and Drug Administration authorities indicated that the investigation primarily concerned claims printed on medicine labels rather than the sale of Ayurvedic products themselves. The case is therefore being examined from the perspective of advertisement and promotional compliance.

Officials Cite Concerns Over Alleged Misleading Advertisements
Speaking about the operation, FDA Inspector Lohakare said the raid was conducted based on information received by the department. He clarified that a licence is generally not required for selling Ayurvedic medicines, but action can be initiated if regulatory violations are identified.
According to Lohakare, some of the products available in the store allegedly carried claims that could fall within the category of “misleading advertisements.” As a result, the concerned medicine stock was seized, and further examination has been initiated under applicable legal provisions.
Officials completed the operation by Monday evening. The action has generated considerable discussion in Wardha, particularly among businesses involved in the sale and distribution of Ayurvedic and healthcare products.
Earlier Enforcement Actions Also Drew Attention
The latest seizure follows another significant regulatory action undertaken by the department on May 31. Authorities had earlier initiated proceedings against the well-known Goras Bhandar, resulting in restrictions on the sale of certain food products.
That earlier action reportedly affected local dairy supply chains and attracted widespread public attention. Industry observers note that recent enforcement measures indicate a stronger focus on regulatory compliance, product standards, labelling practices, and consumer protection across Maharashtra.
The Wardha case remains under investigation, and authorities have stated that further legal action, if required, will be determined after completion of the ongoing review. The outcome may provide additional clarity regarding regulatory expectations for claims made on Ayurvedic medicine labels and promotional materials.
