A shocking land grab case has surfaced near Dombivli, where a seven-storey illegal building has reportedly been constructed on land belonging to the heirs of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, principal architect of the Indian Constitution. The land, located behind Venkatesh Petrol Pump on Shilphata Road near St. John’s School in Dawdi, is registered in the name of Dr. Ambedkar’s son Yashwant Bhimrao Ambedkar and grandchildren Prakash Ambedkar, Anandraj Ambedkar, Bhimrao Ambedkar, and Rama Teltumbde.

According to a formal complaint filed by Anand Navsagre, district president of the Republican Sena (Kalyan-Dombivli), local land mafias have illegally erected a residential complex named Tanishka Residency on this property. The complaint also highlights the widespread inaction of authorities despite repeated follow-ups over four years with the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), Tehsildar, and police officials. The illegal occupation is allegedly backed by local muscle power, creating roadblocks in reclaiming the property.

The assistant commissioner of KDMC’s ‘I Ward’ has declared the Tanishka Residency structure unauthorized. Notices have been issued to demolish the building, and an official request has been made to initiate self-demolition. In two prior attempts, the civic body was unable to carry out demolition due to a lack of police support.

Navsagre has also demanded that an FIR be registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against those involved in seizing land owned by Ambedkar’s family. The Sprouts News Team verified that KDMC’s ward officials have officially labeled the construction illegal and confirmed that demolition is imminent. The civic authority has engaged a heavy-duty demolition unit for razing the building in the coming weeks.

The land grab has caused significant outrage among Ambedkar followers and residents of the area. Activists and community members express concern over the symbolic and legal violation of Ambedkar family property, a name deeply tied to India’s social justice legacy.

The Bombay High Court has, over the past year, directed KDMC to demolish over 80 illegal structures across Dombivli. This latest encroachment on Ambedkar family land underscores persistent failures in urban land governance and real estate enforcement.
