Maharashtra Education Scandal: ARMIET Institute Rocked by Multi-Crore Construction Scam
A Sprouts News Special Investigation reveals fresh financial irregularities at ARMIET in Sapgaon. This new construction scam emerges while its earlier land lease scandal remains unresolved. The engineering college faces serious allegations of unauthorized building construction.
The institute stands accused of massive unauthorized construction violations. These actions allegedly caused significant revenue loss to the state exchequer. Serious questions surround former Assistant Director Kishor Patil’s role in this matter.
Systematic Flouting of Construction Norms
Authorities allege ARMIET deliberately violated government construction permits. The institute built additional floors without proper authorization. Official documents confirm these serious planning violations occurred.
The Type A building exemplifies this pattern of violation. It was sanctioned as a G+1 structure covering 5,818 square meters. However, the actual construction reached G+3 spanning nearly 12,000 square meters.
Similarly, the Type E building shows clear violations. It was approved as a G+1 structure of 3,153 square meters. The institute illegally constructed it as a G+2 building instead.
Revenue Loss and Official Collusion Suspicions
The minimal composition fee charged caused major state revenue loss. An estimated four crore rupees in fees was compromised. Only about two crore rupees were eventually recovered.
This decision has raised suspicions of official collusion. Questions surround the roles of former town planning officials. The Thane District Collector had ordered a joint inspection.
That crucial site inspection remains incomplete today. This delay fuels allegations of administrative complicity. Local citizens increasingly question institutional integrity.
