Scam in the Name of Records: Investigation Exposes Pay-to-Play Schemes Masquerading as Prestigious Awards
A special investigation by the Sprouts News Special Investigation Team (SIT) has uncovered a widespread operation where seemingly prestigious record-keeping organizations are allegedly selling certificates and awards for a fee, misleading everyone from children to major government corporations. Entities like the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records, linked to Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury, stand accused of operating a lucrative pay-to-play model that devalues the concept of genuine achievement.
The Business of Fake Glory: How Record Certificates Are Sold
Our investigation reveals a straightforward commercial transaction lies at the heart of these operations. Individuals or groups can allegedly purchase a record certificate for fees ranging from a few thousand rupees to one lakh. The Sprouts News SIT has gathered evidence suggesting that virtually any mundane activity, such as jumping on a bed at home, can be certified as a “record” upon payment. The model is structured around tiered packages that include certificates, medals, and stickers, all available for a price.
Premium Packages and Paid Media Promotions Exposed
The monetization strategy extends beyond the basic certificate. Sources confirm that these organizations offer premium plans that include paid promotions in established media outlets. For an additional fee, awardees can secure coverage in publications like the Times of India’s Bombay Times and Mid-Day, creating a veneer of legitimacy. This sophisticated scheme mirrors the appearance of genuine world records, effectively misleading the public and institutions into believing the achievements are authentic and rigorously vetted.
Government Departments Duped: Maharashtra State Electricity Utility Implicated
The scandal reaches the highest levels of public administration. The Sprouts News SIT can confirm that Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. (Mahavitaran) recently procured five such records from Asia Book of Records. The certificates were awarded to officers including Rajendra Pawar, Paresh Bhagwat, and Prasad Reshame by the organization’s examiner, Kashmira Mayank Shah. This incident highlights how even government bodies are being deceived into legitimizing these fraudulent awards.
Political Endorsement of Fraudulent Records Uncovered
This is not an isolated incident. Just three months prior, another entity, India Star of Records, bestowed a certificate upon Ramgiri Maharaj. Disturbingly, a copy of this questionable certificate was presented in a public program at Shani Devgan in Vaijapur Taluka, attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Ministers Girish Mahajan and Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil. Such high-profile political endorsement, even if unintentional, lends incredible credibility to these fraudulent operations and misleads the citizenry.
From Fake Records to Fake Doctorates: Expanding Web of Deceit
The findings of the Sprouts News Special Investigation Team indicate the deception runs deeper than just record certificates. These organizations are allegedly involved in selling fake academic credentials, including counterfeit PhD certificates and doctorates. This expansion into fraudulent academic awards reveals a sophisticated business model built entirely on exploiting the desire for recognition and prestige, further eroding trust in accredited institutions.

India Book of Records Exposed for Selling Fake Doctorate Degrees
In a shocking revelationof Sprouts SIT, the India Book of Records (IBR) has been accused of selling fraudulent doctorate awards under the guise of the “World Records University” – an institution that investigations now confirm does not exist anywhere in the world.
Despite claims by IBR owner Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury that it is a UK-based accredited university, our investigation found no evidence of its existence in the UK or any other country. The so-called university is nothing more than a façade used to lure unsuspecting individuals into purchasing fake academic credentials.
These fake doctorates are reportedly sold as part of expensive packages, adding a layer of false legitimacy to IBR’s already questionable record-certification business.
This report reinforces earlier exposes into how certain record organizations are systematically misleading the public with paid awards and unverified titles. Authorities are urged to take note of these fraudulent practices.
A Systemic Scheme Designed to Mislead the Public
In conclusion, this investigation paints a picture of a well-oiled scheme designed to profit from vanity and institutional credibility gaps. The operation misleads individuals, corporate entities, and even government departments into paying for accolades that are devoid of merit or rigorous verification. The Special Investigation Team at Sprouts News calls for greater public awareness and official scrutiny into the practices of these organizations to protect the integrity of genuine achievement.
