The Delhi High Court has directed yoga guru Ramdev Baba to remove a controversial video targeting the popular beverage brand ‘Hamdard’ within 24 hours. The court intervened following the circulation of a video featuring inflammatory commentary referring to the drink as “Sharbat Jihad.” This prompted Hamdard National Foundation to file a legal petition, citing defamation and contempt of court.
Despite a prior warning against sharing provocative content, Ramdev allegedly re-circulated a new version of the same video. The court found this to be a clear violation of its earlier order. Justice Amit Bansal, presiding over the matter, expressed concern over Ramdev’s disregard for judicial directives, stating, “He seems to exist in a world of his own.”

In earlier proceedings, the court had explicitly directed Ramdev to avoid making further contentious remarks or distributing defamatory material via social media platforms. However, Hamdard’s legal team submitted evidence showing non-compliance, asserting that Ramdev continues to misuse public platforms despite legal restraint.
The court responded firmly, stating it will issue a notice and summon Ramdev for further hearing. “Prima facie, the video and your affidavit appear contemptuous,” said Justice Bansal, addressing the gravity of defying judicial authority. The case is shaping into a significant legal precedent concerning influencer accountability in digital media.
• Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali misleading products: Sprouts SIT Exposes Misleading Health Claims in Ayurvedic Branding
This isn’t the first time Ramdev Baba and his Patanjali brand have drawn criticism. The Sprouts Special Investigation Team (SIT) had previously revealed how Patanjali misleads consumers by marketing products like chyawanprash with excessive sugar content, particularly harmful to diabetic patients and children.
SIT findings also highlighted how brands including Dabur and others in the Ayurvedic space share similar formulations, often marketed without adequate health disclosures. Despite promoting their products as healthy, some have been found to contain ingredients with addictive properties and negligible clinical validation. Sprouts News continues to raise critical questions about consumer safety and corporate transparency in India’s growing wellness industry.
