In a significant development, the Vice President’s Secretariat has taken cognizance of a serious complaint against DY Patil Vidyapeeth, leading to direct intervention by the Maharashtra Minister for Medical Education. The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) has now been ordered to form a three-member committee to probe allegations of severe harassment faced by resident doctors.

The Sprouts News Special Investigation Team has accessed documents and testimonies that expose the shocking conditions under which resident doctors at DY Patil Medical College have been forced to work. The allegations include mental, physical, and financial harassment, raising serious concerns about medical education governance in the state.

• Three-Year Struggle Finally Gets Attention

The controversy began when a resident doctor detailed his harrowing experience, revealing how he and his colleagues were treated inhumanely. The complaints included:

– Excessive working hours without food or breaks
– No fixed duty schedules or biometric time slots
– Forced fabrication of 20 fake MRD files per week per department
– Financial extortion in the name of publications, CME fees, and even electricity bills
– Confiscation of personal belongings like air conditioners

One of the most shocking incidents took place on December 28, 2024, when the dean of the medical college initially signed the exam form of the resident doctor but later retracted his admit card from the website on January 1, 2025—just days before the exam. The distress caused by this incident pushed the doctor to the verge of suicide.

In a desperate plea for help, the resident doctor reached out to the then-NMC Deputy Secretary, leading to a notification (No. N-P050 (20)34/2023-PGMEB-NMC) from the Anti-Ragging Cell on January 1, 2025. However, instead of addressing the issue, the college management further harassed him by delaying the release of his admit card until just a few hours before the exam at 6 AM on January 2, 2025.

• State Government Steps In

After relentless efforts spanning three years, the Sprouts News Special Investigation Team has learned that the National Medical Commission (NMC) issued an Action Taken Report (ATR) notice to DY Patil Medical College. Subsequently, a petition was addressed to the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, demanding a full-fledged state government inquiry.

Acting on this, the Vice President’s Secretariat forwarded the petition on March 19, 2025, prompting the Maharashtra Minister for Medical Education to order DMER to form a three-member committee to investigate the matter. This committee will now probe the allegations and submit its findings to the Honorable Secretariat.

• Harassment a Recurring Pattern at DY Patil Medical College

This is not an isolated case. Every year, several resident doctors are allegedly forced to leave their residency due to similar harassment by the Vidyapeeth management. Complaints of financial exploitation, mental torture, and unethical practices continue to surface, with little action taken against the institution—until now.
