Epstein Files Shockwave Hits India: Former CM Chavan Alleges Link to Union Minister
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has claimed that unsealed Jeffrey Epstein documents contain references to an Indian Union Minister. He alleged the files include a 2014 email chain involving Steve Bannon, Jeffrey Epstein, and a request for a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chavan has demanded full transparency, warning of serious political repercussions.
A major Indian political figure’s name has reportedly emerged in the unsealed Jeffrey Epstein documents, according to former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. In an exclusive statement, Chavan indicated the files could trigger a political earthquake in India. He specifically named Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in connection with the scandal.
Chavan revealed that the reference involves an email exchange from 2014. He described a chain involving Steve Bannon, a former advisor to Donald Trump, who allegedly contacted Epstein. The purpose was to seek a meeting for Bannon with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Alleged Email Chain and Political Connections
“Bannon requests Epstein, ‘I want to meet the Prime Minister of India, Modi,’” Chavan stated, recounting the alleged document. “Epstein replies, ‘I will try.’” Chavan claims a subsequent email from Bannon simply said, “Modi is on board,” implying a meeting was arranged.
This alleged connection forms the core of Chavan’s political questioning. “The question that arises is how and where did his (Bannon’s) and Modi’s links come from?” he asked publicly. He emphasized that the reference to Modi is from 2014, early in his first term as Prime Minister.
The former CM directly linked Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to the case. “Hardeep Singh Puri was India’s representative in the US,” Chavan noted, explaining Puri’s diplomatic posting in New York at the time. The allegation is that Puri’s name appears multiple times in the documents, suggesting several meetings with Jeffrey Epstein.

A Call for Transparency and Government Accountability
Prithviraj Chavan has demanded full transparency from the government regarding these entries. He questioned why no clarification has been offered. “Ask the government itself why disclosure is not happening on this,” he challenged, pushing for an official response.
He acknowledged the complexity of the evidence, referring to the “300 GB of data” containing “millions of photographs, millions of documents, millions of emails.” Chavan admitted he has not examined all the documents due to the sheer volume, which makes extracting information a difficult task.
The politician also cautioned against a rush to judgement based on names alone. “Just because a name has come, it cannot be assumed that they have committed a crime,” he stated. However, he insists the fundamental question remains unresolved for any individual named.
“The question is how and where did the relations between Epstein and these leaders come about?” Chavan reiterated. He stressed that Epstein was a known criminal, convicted in 2008-09. This makes any association with him deeply problematic for public officials aware of his record.
Potential Political Repercussions and Investigation Demands
The emergence of an Indian name in the global scandal forces a political response. Chavan indicated that opposition parties, including the Congress and the INDIA alliance, will need to decide their stance. The political strategy will depend on how the situation develops.
Chavan suggested more revelations are likely. “Only partial evidence has come out so far in the Epstein case. There will be more shocking revelations in this case.” He speculated that the full picture may take additional weeks to become clear.
The former Chief Minister’s allegations place the Indian government in a sensitive position. With a senior Union Minister’s name in play, the demand for a clear investigation grows. The government has yet to issue a formal statement addressing these specific claims.
This story, first reported by Sprouts News, continues to develop. The global scrutiny of the Epstein client list now touches Indian shores, promising serious political and legal ramifications. All eyes are on the government’s next move.
