Ganesh Naik upset over appointment of new DMC

1 Mins read

Ganesh Naik and his relatives have been ruling the roost in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) for the last 25 years. He amassed crores of rupees by corrupt means using his clout all these years. Now Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has initiated steps to erode his influence and give good civic services to the citizens of Navi Mumbai.

Thackeray has appointed experienced and “no none sense” man as the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) due which Ganesh Naik and his relatives are under tension. A tender fraud in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation taking place every year is commonly known.

Besides, the unauthorised constructions are mushrooming. The roads are sub-standard. The footpaths have been encroached upon by the unauthorised hawkers. Till now Naik and his relatives earned crores of rupees by shielding such illegal activities.

Thackeray has appointed highly qualified and fearless Dr. Rahul Gethe (MBBS, MD, PSM) as the DMC. Resultantly Ganesh Naik, Sanjeev Naik and Sandeep Naik are terrified.

Ganesh Naik and his relatives have threatened to stage agitations and take to the streets by organising the morchas if Dr. Gethe is appointed as the DMC. However Thackeray is firm in his decision.

Ganesh Naik and Dr. Rahul Gethe could not be reached for the reaction. When contacted NMM Commissioner Abhijit Bangar said that Dr. Gethe has been appointed as the DMC by the chief minister. As such his appointment cannot be cancelled.
