GMC Jalgaon Dean Dr. Girish Thakur Faces Probe
• Allegations of Harassment, Transfer Irregularities and administrative shielding
• Pattern of Allegations: From Sexual Harassment to Bribery
• Sprouts SIT Uncovers Web of Harassment, illegal Transfers at GMC Jalgaon
GMC Jalgaon Dean Dr. Girish Thakur is facing a growing probe into allegations of harassment, bribery, caste abuse, and illegal faculty transfers. Despite multiple inquiry letters issued by the state, the DMER has failed to take action, fueling claims of administrative shielding. The Sprouts SIT investigation exposes how complaints were repeatedly suppressed, raising serious concerns about accountability in Maharashtra’s medical education system.
Jalgaon’s Government Medical College (GMC) has come under fresh controversy as Dean Dr. Girish Thakur faces multiple allegations ranging from harassment to irregular transfers of faculty members. Despite repeated complaints to the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), no decisive action has been taken, raising questions about political interference and administrative complicity.
Complaints Ignored Against Dr. Girish Thakur Despite principal secretary ,medical education and State women’s commission Orders
A whistleblower revealed that a detailed complaint against Dr. Thakur was filed with DMER nearly a year ago, followed by multiple reminders. However, no inquiry was initiated.
On March 19, 2025, the Principal Secretary, Medical Education, ordered an inquiry based on the complaint. Yet, the procedure was suppressed and the complainant was never informed about the status.
The issue escalated when the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission also intervened. On May 6, 2025, the Commission directed Dr. Ajay Chandanwale to initiate an inquiry against the Dean. Despite this, no action followed, fueling suspicion of deliberate delay.
In the mean time documents were manipulated and dr thakur prepared defence for himself pressurised and blackmailed the victims.
Whistleblower Transferred Mid-Term in Alleged Retaliation
Shockingly, on July 7, 2025, both the complainant and her husband—faculty members at GMC Jalgaon—were transferred mid-term and mid-tenure to GMC Buldhana, allegedly on fabricated administrative grounds. The transfers cited a National Medical Commission (NMC) notice regarding staff shortages.
However, records show that GMC Jalgaon had fewer staff than GMC Buldhana. Further, the authorities failed to adjust faculty from colleges with excess staff who were actually due for transfer. This discrepancy, sources claim, points to malafide intentions by Dean Thakur to silence dissenters.
Enquiry Letters Suppressed, Transparency Denied
On July 10, 2025, the DMER Commissioner again issued an inquiry order against Dr. Thakur. No communication was made to the complainant. Only after the complainant posted on social media on August 10, 2025, and filed a case in the MAT court did the authorities respond on August 14, 2025.
Since then, the process has allegedly lacked transparency. The complainant claims that:
•She has not been allowed to cross-examine witnesses.
•She has not received the list of witnesses.
•Authorities are pressurising or luring faculty with work relaxations to weaken her case.
•Fake records are being filed, showing staff “on paper” at Jalgaon while actually stationed out of Jalgaon.
This has eroded trust in the inquiry mechanism.

Transfer Case Under Suspicion
The whistleblower further highlighted irregularities in the handling of her husband’s case. On September 15, 2025, when the court was set to reserve its order, the authorities abruptly posted a new MPSC recruit the same day. This, she alleges, was a deliberate attempt to delay proceedings and keep the couple away from Jalgaon.
Such administrative maneuvers suggest a systematic effort to protect Dean Thakur and discredit complainants.
Political Shielding and Calls for SIT Probe
Repeated interventions from statutory bodies, including the state and the Women’s Commission, have failed to yield accountability. Insiders allege that administrative patronage and financial interests are shielding Dr. Thakur from disciplinary action.
The Sprouts News Investigation Team (SIT) has found parallels with past medical education scams where regulatory apathy and collusion allowed irregularities to flourish. Activists and faculty members are now demanding an independent SIT-led probe to restore confidence in Maharashtra’s medical education system.
Way Forward
The case against Dr. Girish Thakur underscores deep-rooted flaws in the medical education regulatory framework. From faculty harassment and irregular transfers to suppressed inquiries, the lack of transparency has eroded trust among students, faculty, and the public.
Unless the state government and regulatory bodies act decisively, the controversy risks becoming another symbol of systemic corruption in Maharashtra’s medical institutions.
