The Sprouts News Investigation Team (SIT) has uncovered that Police Inspector Devidas Handore was transferred after omitting a hidden room—where 11 women were rescued—from the FIR in a Kem Cho dance bar raid in Mira Road. Commissioner Niket Kaushik’s swift action exposes deeper concerns over police transparency and recurring violations.
A high-profile police action against the controversial Kem Cho dance bar has triggered disciplinary action against a senior officer for concealing crucial details in the official FIR. The Sprouts News Investigation Team (SIT) learned that Police Inspector Devidas Handore of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) was abruptly transferred to the Traffic Department after failing to mention a secret room where 11 women were rescued during the raid.
Commissioner Niket Kaushik’s swift action has sent shockwaves through the Mira-Bhayandar police force, where the bar’s notoriety for repeat violations is already a matter of public record.

Bar Demolished, Then Revived — Raising Eyebrows

Located within the jurisdiction of Kashimira Police Station, Kem Cho has been in the spotlight for repeated breaches of law. In September 2024, municipal authorities demolished the establishment following police action, and an MRTP (Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning) case was registered.
However, in a brazen move, the owner allegedly rebuilt and resumed operations within months — a development now under renewed scrutiny by the SIT.

Hidden Room Missing from Official FIR

During the latest raid, police initially recorded that the bar owner and driver were absconding. The FIR, however, omitted any mention of a concealed cavity within the bar’s wall, where 11 women were allegedly hidden to evade detection.
Once this omission came to light, Commissioner Kaushik directly questioned why this critical detail was excluded. Handore’s transfer followed immediately, underscoring growing pressure for transparent and accurate reporting in police documentation.

36 Booked, 18 Women Rescued

Under the supervision of DCP (Crime) Sandeep Doiphode, the AHTU conducted a follow-up raid. Officers detained seven women performing allegedly obscene dances on stage. Upon thorough inspection, they uncovered the hidden room, leading to the rescue of an additional 11 women.
In total, 36 individuals were charged in connection with the operation, with cases registered under relevant sections of the IPC and anti-human trafficking laws.

SIT’s Continuing Investigation

The Sprouts News Investigation Team (SIT) is now examining whether the omission in the FIR was an isolated lapse or indicative of a larger pattern of procedural irregularities in handling dance bar cases in Mira-Bhayandar. Sources suggest that internal reports could lead to more personnel transfers or even criminal proceedings against complicit officials.
Given the bar’s history of reopening despite demolition, questions remain over enforcement loopholes and possible collusion between law enforcement and operators of such establishments.
