MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), a well-known educational institution in Pune, is now facing serious allegations of illegal land encroachment and unauthorized construction on forested land. Reports indicate that the university has encroached upon the ecologically significant teak forest area, known as “Teakdi,” and has been using the land for infrastructure expansion without obtaining the necessary permissions.
• Encroachment of Teakdi Forest
According to reliable sources of Sprouts News Special Investigation Team, MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU) has gradually taken over sections of Teakdi, a dense teak forest that holds immense ecological value. Environmental activists and local residents have voiced concerns, claiming that the university has expanded its campus by clearing portions of the forest to construct new buildings.
This alleged encroachment has raised alarms over deforestation, environmental damage, and long-term ecological consequences. Despite strong protests from environmental groups, reports suggest that MIT-WPU has continued its expansion projects without securing the required environmental clearances.

• Unauthorized Classroom Construction
What makes the situation even more alarming is the revelation that newly built classrooms, including those in the recently constructed Class Four block, stand on encroached land. These classrooms, reportedly built without proper legal approvals, are located in areas that were never part of the university’s officially sanctioned campus.
University officials have remained silent on the issue, failing to provide any clear explanation regarding the legal status of the land or whether they have obtained the necessary approvals. This lack of transparency has fueled suspicions of regulatory violations and possible collusion with authorities.
• Public Road Mismanagement
Adding to the controversy, MIT-WPU has also been accused of treating a public road maintained by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) as its own private property. The road, meant for public use, has allegedly been fenced off and blocked, restricting local residents and commuters from using it.
Complaints from locals indicate that university authorities have placed barriers, preventing free movement on the road. This action has raised questions about the university’s authority over public infrastructure and whether PMC has taken any action against the encroachment.
