“If justice is not equal for all, it is not justice” – a saying.
Both these things have come true in the case of Dera (sect) Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh also known as MSG (Messenger of God). The Sirsa-headquartered sect’s chief is serving a 20-year jail term for raping two of his disciples. He is also serving life imprisonment for murder charges. However, the ‘kind’ Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has released him on parole for the 7th time. Immediately after coming out of jail, the Dera chief started image building. In a grand ceremony organized on the occasion of his birthday, the Nine class failed, and the self-proclaimed spiritual teacher got an honorary Ph.D. and added the title of Doctor to his name. However, the Sprouts Special Investigation Team (SIT) has substantial evidence that this degree is bogus.
The Dera chief has his terror in Haryana and Punjab even today. However, due to his nexus with politicians and money power, his wrongdoings have not come out in the open on a large scale. The crimes for which he is serving prison terms are just the tip of the iceberg. He is serving a 20-year jail term for raping two of his disciples. In 2021, the Dera chief, along with four others, was also convicted of hatching a conspiracy to kill Ranjit Singh, a Dera manager. The Dera chief and three others were convicted in 2019 for the murder of a journalist, Ram Chander Chhatrapati, more than 16 years ago. At present, he is serving a 20-year jail term in Rohtak, Haryana.
The Dera chief has lakhs of followers, and it is considered a big vote bank in Punjab and Haryana. As a result, the BJP government in Haryana dilly-dallied in arresting Baba Ram Rahim. However, following an order by the special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the government was forced to arrest the Dera chief.
Even after the arrest, the BJP government does a special favour to the Dera chief. In the last two-and-a-half years, he has been released on parole seven times. Parole is a rule, and punishment or a jail term is an exception for Ram Rahim. Supporting parole for Ram Rahim Singh, the Haryana government said in the Punjab and Haryana High Court that he does not fall under the definition of a ‘hardcore prisoner’ and cannot be termed a serial killer.
The Punjab government has cited the ‘mayhem’ created by supporters of the Dera chief in Haryana’s Panchkula when he was convicted in the rape case in 2017 as a reason for its stand. At present, Ram Rahim is out of jail on parole for 40 days.
On August 15, after coming out of jail, Baba Ram Rahim celebrated his birthday in his Shah Satnam Ashram in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh. Not only this, he received his Doctorate from Theophany University, a fake university.
The said university has mentioned on its website that it has its headquarters in Haiti. However, this claim is completely wrong. There is no university or educational institute at the given address. The photograph of the building of the university displayed on the website is not of Theophany University but of some other university.
The website of the university also displays a letter from Haiti’s Ministry of Commerce, but it is also a fake one. Of course, there is no question of the University Grants Commission (UGC) giving its approval to the university, which does not exist at all.
The university website has two letters: one as Theophany University and another as Theophany International University. Both letters are not readable and are fake. The look of the website is very attractive and modern. As a result, many students fall prey to it. The Sprouts Team has also written to Haiti government about the same.
A conman named Abhishek Pandey is operating the nexus and is appointing agents to sell honorary PhDs in India through the medium of this bogus university. He charges fees ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh for this. The cost increases with the lack of knowledge of the customer. Till date, this conman has misled thousands of students and gathered black money worth crores. Therefore, Sprouts demands that the Income Tax Department conduct an inquiry into this.
Ph.D. even for Honeypreet
● A representative of the bogus Theophany University honoured Baba Ram Rahim with an Honorary Ph.D. degree at the Dera chief’s Ashram. Immediately after, his ‘said’ daughter, Honeypreet Insan (Original name: Priyanka Taneja), was also given a bogus PhD.
● Honeypreet’s ex-husband Vishwas Gupta had made allegations many times that Honeypreet, now ‘Rohani, and Baba Ram Rahim had illicit relations. In 2009, Honeypreet had also escaped.
● On June 25, 2016, a representative of World Records University, London, also came to Ram Rahim’s Ashram and gave him an Honorary PhD. Ram Rahim had organized a grand ceremony for this purpose. However, the university did not have the approval of the government in the United Kingdom. The fact came to light, and that degree was also revoked.
