Ostwal Builders Arrested for Fake Permits in Multi-Crore Mira Road Housing Fraud
In a significant crackdown on real estate corruption, the director of Ostwal Builders Pvt. Ltd., Umraosingh Ostwal, was arrested on Sunday. The Mira-Bhayandar-Vasai-Virar (MBVV) police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) apprehended him for allegedly orchestrating a sophisticated fraud involving fake construction permits that defrauded flat owners of crores of rupees. The Anatomy of the Ostwal Builders Permit Scam
According to the official charges, Ostwal focused his activities on the Ostwal Paradise Building No. 6 in Mira Road’s Nayanagar area. He is accused of creating counterfeit revised construction permits and building maps. These forged documents were then presented as genuine, allowing him to illegally construct additional floors far beyond the officially sanctioned limit. The illegally built flats were subsequently sold to unsuspecting homebuyers.
Economic Offences Wing Investigates Widespread Fraud
The scam unraveled when defrauded flat owners filed formal complaints with the Nayanagar police. On May 16, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Initial investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) quickly revealed Ostwal’s central role in altering documents and permissions. After initially fleeing, he was tracked down by Police Inspector Sushilkumar Shinde and handed over to the EOW for a deeper probe.

Accused Builder Has History of Legal Troubles
The arrest has unveiled a troubling pattern of criminal behavior. An EOW officer confirmed that a check into the accused’s past revealed a staggering 13 previous cases registered against him at various police stations, including Navghar, Mira Road, Nayanagar, and Kashimira. This history suggests a prolonged engagement in fraudulent activities, prompting investigators to widen their net to identify other potential accomplices in this complex crime.
Police and Residents Seek Justice and Accountability
The EOW’s current investigation is focused on uncovering the full scope of the fraud. Authorities are compiling a detailed list of all buildings constructed by the accused, the total number of people defrauded, and the complete sum of illegally obtained funds. Meanwhile, the affected residents of Ostwal Paradise are not remaining passive; they plan to approach the court directly to seek justice and restitution for their financial losses. This case serves as a stark warning to both unethical builders and potential homebuyers.
