Meanwhile, various Maratha protesters have gathered in Mumbai to join the growing demand for reservation under the OBC category. In the midst of this, former Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray has voiced his opinion on the ongoing protest by Manoj Jarange.
Manoj Jarange’s Hunger Strike at Azad Maidan
Manoj Jarange Patil has initiated his hunger strike at Azad Maidan in Mumbai since 10 AM today, demanding the inclusion of Marathas under the OBC category for reservation. Thousands of Maratha protesters have flocked to Mumbai in support of this cause.
Thackeray reacted to the protest, stating that it’s a sign of strength that Marathas are uniting for their rights, even though they are being forced to come to Mumbai. He criticized the state government and its lack of action, adding that the Maratha community had been used as a political tool before.
Uddhav Thackeray’s Response on OBC Reservation
When asked whether he supports the demand for Maratha reservation through the OBC category, Uddhav Thackeray responded, “You asked the wrong people. They promised reservation within six months, swearing on Shivaji Maharaj’s name. You should question those who made such promises. As for me, there’s nothing I can do about it right now.” Thackeray also criticized the government, questioning why this issue has remained unresolved even after so many years, especially under Devendra Fadnavis’ leadership.
Fadnavis’ Allegations: A Gun on Jarange’s Shoulder?
Devendra Fadnavis had claimed that the Maratha reservation issue was being politicized by positioning a ‘gun’ on Jarange’s shoulder. When asked for his opinion, Thackeray responded, “Who are these people? Given the chaos within their own party and alliance, they must be referring to someone specific. Ask them who they’re targeting with this ‘gun.’ If that’s the case, why wait to bring out the gun? Why has this issue remained unresolved even after Fadnavis has served as Chief Minister for multiple terms?”

Legal Action Against Jarange: Gunratn Sadavarte Takes a Stand
Meanwhile, Gunratn Sadavarte has taken the matter to a new level by seeking legal action against Jarange. Sadavarte had previously called for not granting permission for Jarange’s protest in Mumbai. Now, he has filed an official complaint against Jarange, citing violations of the rules. According to Sadavarte, Jarange had only been given permission to protest from 9 AM to 6 PM on August 29th.
However, Jarange violated these conditions and continued his protest beyond the designated time. Sadavarte has now demanded that a case be filed against Jarange under the Indian Penal Code and the Bombay Police Act, 1951.
Political Leaders Under Scrutiny
Sadavarte has also raised concerns over the growing crowd at Azad Maidan, which has exceeded 5,000 people. This has led to severe traffic jams and road blockages, causing major inconvenience for ordinary citizens. He further accused political leaders, including Uddhav Thackeray, Sanjay Jadhav, Vijay Singh Pandit, Omraje Nimbalkar, and Bajrang Sonawane, of backing the protest politically. Sadavarte has called for legal action against these leaders for inciting and supporting the protest.
What Happens Next?
The situation in Mumbai continues to unfold, and the public is closely watching the developments. As the political tension escalates, the key question remains: How will the government respond to the growing demands for Maratha reservation under the OBC category, and what will be the legal consequences for those involved in the protest?
