All accused in the 2020 Tambadi rape-murder case of a minor girl were acquitted due to lack of evidence, sparking public outrage in Roha. Citizens blamed Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam and demanded an SIT probe, suspension of officers, and High Court appeal, citing investigative and prosecutorial failures.

In a shocking turn of events, all the accused in the 2020 rape and murder case of a minor girl from Tambadi village in Roha taluka (district: Raigad, Maharashtra) have been acquitted due to lack of evidence. The verdict delivered by the Mangaon Sessions Court has sparked widespread outrage across Maharashtra. Criticism is mounting against Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam for his alleged failure to secure a conviction. According to Sprouts News, the acquittal stems from inadequate evidence and weak courtroom representation.

Public Outrage Erupts in Roha as Citizens March Against Verdict

Following the court’s decision, hundreds of citizens in Roha took to the streets, demanding justice for the victim. Protesters raised slogans like “The rapists must be hanged,” “Shame on the investigation agencies,” and “Set up an SIT now.” The protest march began at Ram Maruti Chowk and culminated at the Tehsil office. A large number of women participated in the march, while the victim’s relatives broke down in tears, demanding justice for their lost daughter.

Demand for SIT Probe and Accountability for Investigation Failures

As the protest reached the Tehsil office, Sub-Divisional Officer Dnyaneshwar Khutwad addressed the gathering and assured the aggrieved family that the case would be taken to the High Court. A formal memorandum was submitted to Khutwad, demanding the appointment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), suspension of negligent investigating officers, and a fresh inquiry into the case. According to Sprouts News Special Investigation Team (SIT), glaring lapses in investigation—such as poor evidence collection and delayed procedures—contributed to the acquittal of the accused.

Sprouts News Exposé Highlights Prosecutorial and Systemic Failures

The Tambadi case had earlier shaken the conscience of Maharashtra and was fast-tracked to ensure timely justice. However, the final verdict has left the public disillusioned with the justice delivery system. Questions are being raised on the role of Special Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, who allegedly kept stakeholders in the dark until the verdict. As per Sprouts News, voices are now growing louder for a judicial audit into how such a high-profile case collapsed despite widespread public and political attention.
