A Legacy of Laughter and Satire

Best known for his iconic role as Advocate Dhillon in the Carry On Jatta series, Bhalla charmed audiences not just with his timing but with a warmth that transcended the screen. His satirical comedy style—from his audio‑video series Chhankata to memorable phrases like “Kaala Coat”—made social commentary feel like a friendly laugh.

Beyond the screen, Bhalla’s academic journey was equally remarkable. A scholar by training, he earned a PhD in Extension Education and served as a respected professor and head of his department at Punjab Agricultural University until retiring in 2020. This blend of intellect and humour—he was truly an educator who taught with a twist of wit—is what made him unforgettable.

Throughout his nearly four-decade career, he delivered standout performances in Punjabi hits such as Mahaul Theek Hai, Jatt & Juliet, Mel Karade Rabba, Power Cut, and many more. His appealing characters—whether on stage or in film—reflected the heart of Punjabi culture.

Jaswinder Bhalla: Health and Final Journey

Reports indicate that Bhalla had been in poor health for some time, battling chronic conditions like diabetes and heart issues. Recent sources reveal that he suffered a brain stroke, which ultimately led to his passing in the early hours of August 22, 2025.

The cremation is set for 12 pm on Saturday, August 23, at the Balongi cremation ground in Mohali. Family, friends, industry colleagues, and fans are expected to gather to honour the life of this great performer.

Tributes to legendary Jaswinder Bhalla:

Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh (Raja Warring) called Bhalla “a proud Punjabi voice” that resonated globally, and extended heartfelt condolences to his family and fans.

BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal praised him as “not only the king of Punjabi comedy but the voice of truth and simplicity,” who brought smiles from Punjab to international stages.

RS MP Swati Maliwal remembered Bhalla as “a true icon who used humour not just to entertain but to deliver powerful social messages.”

Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa added, “The stage of Punjabi laughter stands silent today…With his unmatched talent, he turned simplicity into laughter.”

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, too, shared a moving tribute saying, “The clang of Chhankata has gone silent…Chacha Chatar will always reside in our hearts.”

Meanwhile, Sukhbir Badal expressed deep sorrow and remembered Bhalla as a beloved comedian and a fine human being who ruled hearts and brought smiles to many faces.

Final Words on a Comedian’s Legacy

Bhalla’s journey—from professor to comedian’s legacy—is one of warmth, satire, and education. His characters, like Advocate Dhillon and Chacha Chatar Singh, were more than just roles; they were reflections of Punjabi society served with laughter.

Though the laughter may have paused, his legacy will continue to echo through his films, stage work, and the hearts he touched. Today, the world mourns a true legend, but his humour lives on.
