Thane District Central Bank Recruitment Scam: Blacklisted Firm Used in Secret 165-Post Hiring, Alleges SIT Probe
A shocking recruitment scandal is unfolding at the Thane District Central Bank. A Sprouts News Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe can exclusively reveal that the bank used a blacklisted firm for a secretive hiring process. This occurred despite a direct state government order prohibiting the company’s involvement, pointing to a deep-rooted corruption network.
The bank advertised 165 various posts on August 18, 2025. It has since refused to name the agency conducting the recruitment. This secrecy violates government transparency mandates. It also ignores public demands for reputable agencies like IBPS to ensure a fair and impartial selection process for all candidates.
Maharashtra Government Blacklists Workwell Infotech Amid Statewide Scandals
The Maharashtra Cooperative Department finally took action on October 31, 2025. It issued a government resolution removing Workwell Infotech Pvt Ltd from its approved panel. This decision came after mounting complaints and legal petitions across multiple districts in Maharashtra.
Workwell had conducted the highest number of recruitment processes in the state. Many of these hires were mired in controversy over fraudulent appointment letters. The firm was initially approved under a March 12, 2024, government order. That order mandated online recruitment to curb corruption in offline hiring processes.
A History of Controversy: Thane Bank’s Repeated Links to Workwell
The Thane Central Bank’s current secrecy is particularly alarming. Our investigation confirms the bank used Workwell for at least two previous recruitment cycles. These past hirings are already under legal scrutiny in the Supreme Court of India.
Workwell’s own website reportedly boasts these hirings as part of its experience certificate. The firm is notorious for its lack of transparency in recruitment drives. It consistently fails to provide answer sheet copies or final merit lists to anxious candidates. It also withholds lists of candidates shortlisted for interviews, preventing scrutiny.

Political Firestorm: MLA Sadabhau Khot Pledges Action on Corruption
The escalating scandal has now drawn significant political attention. MLA Sadabhau Khot has taken serious note of the alleged irregularities in the Thane Central Bank recruitment. He personally contacted whistleblowers to gather detailed information about the suspect process.
MLA Khot has assured full support in the legal and administrative fight against this corruption. He pledged to assist citizens and students demanding a transparent hiring system. This political intervention underscores the seriousness of the allegations within Maharashtra’s cooperative banks.
Systemic Failure and the Demand for a High-Level Probe
The blacklisting of Workwell is widely seen as a delayed reaction. The firm had already conducted numerous controversial recruitments across the state. The core issue lies with cooperative bank officials and directors who enable such scams.
There are serious questions about potential nepotism in the recruitment. A thorough probe is needed to investigate appointments of relatives of bank directors. The bank’s management has also failed to respond to formal letters and Right to Information (RTI) queries. This non-compliance suggests a deliberate attempt to conceal the truth.
Whistleblower Demands Cancellation and CBI Inquiry
Whistleblower Somnath Mirkute, Kalyan Taluka President, has been relentless. He has written repeatedly to the bank demanding transparency and the use of IBPS. He also highlights that the secretive process violated mandatory reservation policies for candidates.
Mirkute states, “My strong suspicion is Thane Bank used the blacklisted Workwell firm. If proven, this recruitment must be cancelled entirely. We will fight until this scam is fully exposed and justice is served for all hardworking candidates.”
The ongoing cover-up at Thane Central Bank represents a massive betrayal of public trust. Sprouts News consistently reports on such recruitment scams to uphold accountability. Citizens are now demanding an immediate cancellation of the current process. The call for a high-level investigation or a CBI inquiry into the bank’s management is growing louder.
“This secret hiring is a grave injustice to every hardworking candidate. My firm belief is the Thane Central Bank deliberately used the blacklisted Workwell firm, flouting all norms. This entire process must be scrapped immediately. We will not rest until this scam is exposed and a CBI probe ensures justice.”
– Somnath Mirkute, Whistleblower & Kalyan Taluka President
