A high-value jewellery theft complaint linked to film producer and stylist Rhea Kapoor has triggered a police investigation after diamond and emerald earrings worth approximately ₹1.35 crore reportedly went missing during travel to New York for the Met Gala event.
The Rhea Kapoor jewellery theft case has come under investigation after two pairs of luxury earrings valued at approximately ₹1.35 crore were reportedly found missing during an international journey to New York for the prestigious Met Gala event.
According to FIR No. 544/2026 registered at Sahar Police Station, Mumbai, the complaint has been recorded under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against an unidentified person in connection with the alleged theft.
The complainant, Savleen Singh, aged 41, is a professional makeup artist who has reportedly worked with Rhea Anil Kapoor for the past seven years and regularly assists her during fashion events and public appearances.
Police records indicate that Rhea Kapoor had been invited to attend the Met Gala in New York on April 29, 2026. Savleen Singh and other members of the styling and beauty team travelled with her for the event.
According to the complaint, two pairs of earrings obtained on a rental basis from Mehta Jewellers and Goenka Jewellers, Mumbai, had been entrusted to Savleen Singh for safekeeping and transportation.
How the Jewellery Allegedly Went Missing
The FIR states that the team departed Mumbai on April 27, 2026, at approximately 10:25 PM aboard Emirates Airlines, travelling via Dubai before arriving in New York.
According to police records, the group landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport on April 28, 2026, at around 5:30 PM local time and subsequently checked into Hotel Pierre, New York.
The complaint states that the jewellery had remained inside Savleen Singh’s handbag throughout the journey. After reaching the hotel, she reportedly removed the jewellery boxes from her purse.
Savleen Singh then allegedly approached a team member identified as Shireen Madam to hand over the ornaments. However, when the boxes were opened, the earrings were reportedly missing.
The complainant subsequently informed authorities that an unidentified person may have stolen the jewellery during the course of travel between Mumbai and New York.
Investigators are expected to examine airline records, travel movements, hotel security footage, witness statements, and other evidence to determine when and where the alleged theft occurred.

Earrings Valued at ₹1.35 Crore
According to the FIR, one pair of earrings belonged to Mehta Jewellers and consisted of emerald-stone diamond-studded gold earrings valued at approximately ₹66 lakh.
The second pair reportedly belonged to Goenka Jewellers and consisted of Zambian emerald stone earrings with gold borders, carrying an estimated value of approximately ₹69 lakh.
The combined value of the missing jewellery has been estimated at approximately ₹1.35 crore, making it a significant theft complaint involving luxury fashion accessories.
Police have not publicly disclosed whether insurance claims have been initiated or whether any specific suspects have been identified during the preliminary stage of the investigation.
Rhea Kapoor’s Background and Ongoing Investigation
Rhea Kapoor is a producer, entrepreneur, and fashion stylist and is the younger daughter of veteran actor Anil Kapoor.
While her siblings Sonam Kapoor and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor pursued acting careers, Rhea Kapoor established herself as a producer through films including Aisha, Khoobsurat, Veere Di Wedding, and Crew.
The investigation into FIR No. 544/2026 remains ongoing. Mumbai Police are expected to examine all available evidence before determining the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the jewellery.
No arrests have been reported in the case so far, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the alleged theft.
