The complaints alleged that Facebook and Instagram were used to circulate several videos, images and comments showing the Prime Minister in an obscene, derogatory and misleading way, the authorities said. Investigators are examining whether some of the material was digitally altered or created using artificial intelligence before being circulated online.
The complaints were filed by S Aravind Reddy, a 29-year-old businessman, and T Saikiran Goud, a Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activist. The complainants said they came across the content while scrolling Instagram and approached Hyderabad Cybercrime Police seeking legal action.
