The Delhi High Court has ruled in favor of Raviprakash, the founder of TV9, in a legal dispute over the TV9 logo. The Associated Broadcasting Company Limited (ABCL), which currently operates the TV9 network, has been found in violation of an agreement regarding the logo’s ownership. The court has issued notices to ABCL, directing the company to clarify the transfer of logo rights to Raviprakash and settle a pending payment of Rs. 168 crore. ABCL has been given a four-week deadline to comply.

In its ruling, the court reaffirmed that Raviprakash has held the rights to the TV9 logo since 2021. As per the original agreement, he is entitled to a 4% revenue share from the TV9 network. Currently, Rameswara Rao holds a 60% stake in TV9, Megha Krishna Reddy owns 20%, while the remaining shares belong to Raviprakash.

• Copyright Dispute Over TV9 Logo Intensifies

Raviprakash has filed a suit under Section 19A of the Copyright Act against ABCL and the Registrar of Copyrights, challenging the assignment of the TV9 logo. He has demanded Rs. 168.61 crore in royalties for the network’s continued use of the logo and has sought ongoing royalty payments until the dispute is resolved.

The Delhi High Court has ordered ABCL and the Registrar of Copyrights to respond within four weeks. If ABCL fails to comply, further legal consequences could follow.

• Founder’s Role in TV9’s Success Acknowledged

Raviprakash, who founded TV9 in 2004 and served as its first Director, Chairman, and CEO for over 15 years, played a crucial role in the network’s growth and branding. The TV9 logo, registered for copyright protection in 2009, lists him as its author. His involvement in the network’s establishment strengthens his claim that ABCL is liable to pay for using the logo.

With the court’s directive in place, ABCL must now respond to the legal notice and clarify its position regarding logo ownership and royalty payments.
