Atiq Ahmed’s youngest son, Abaan Ahmed, was killed in a road accident on Thursday morning, August 6, 2026, on the Jhansi-Kanpur National Highway in Uttar Pradesh, according to the police. He was going to meet his elder brother, who is lodged in Jhansi jail, when the incident happened. 

The vehicle reportedly lost control and rammed into a divider on the National Highway under the jurisdiction of the Poonch police station of Jhansi district. Officials confirmed another passenger died in the crash and two others were seriously injured.

Jhansi Road Accident Claims Two Lives, Including Abaan Ahmed

The dead have been identified as Abaan Ahmed, the youngest son of slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, and Sonu, son of Raja, the district police said. Emergency responders were unable to save the two occupants of the vehicle who were killed in the crash. 

Police said Abaan Ahmed was going to meet his elder brother, who is still lodged in the Jhansi jail. Authorities have not released the names of the two critically injured people, but said they were taken away for medical treatment right away.

The Poonch police station and the Montha Circle Officer's office sent emergency teams to the accident spot soon after receiving information. Rescue personnel secured the area, assisted the injured, and coordinated a medical evacuation without delay.

The injured were taken to Montha Community Health Centre (CHC) and are still being treated. Officials said the pair were in critical condition and were being given the necessary medical care under close supervision. 

Police officials reached the spot and rushed for relief and rescue operations, the district police said in an official statement. The statement further said that the bodies of the dead have been taken into custody and legal formalities have been initiated as per established procedures.

Police further said the mandatory Panchayatnama process was being carried out as per the law. Early indications are that the case is being treated as a road accident and there are no signs of foul play, the authorities said.

Officials also said that peace and public order were normal at the accident site during the rescue and recovery operation. Traffic was manned by police personnel, and the situation was brought under control without any disruption.”

Gangster turned politician Atiq Ahmed had been in the limelight for decades over his criminal cases and his political career. He was killed in 2023, and multiple members of his family have remained in the public eye because of ongoing legal actions.
