Nagaland officials have warned that human trafficking is increasingly linked to cybercrime, financial fraud, money laundering and forced labour. Speaking at a Mission Shakti programme, senior officials called for stronger institutional coordination, while reporting that 178 gender-based violence cases were handled between April and June 2026.

Human trafficking in Nagaland is evolving beyond traditional forms, with state officials warning of growing links to cybercrime, financial fraud, money laundering and forced labour while urging stronger institutional intervention.

Senior state government officials in Nagaland have said that human trafficking is increasingly being linked to cybercrime, financial fraud, money laundering and forced labour. At an awareness programme, officials pointed to emerging trafficking patterns and new data on gender-based violence, stressing the need for stronger prevention, awareness and institutional coordination.

Limawabang Jamir, Secretary and Administrative Head of the Social Welfare Department, said Nagaland has been and still is a point of origin, transit and destination for human trafficking. The changing nature of trafficking demands coordinated action from government agencies, frontline workers and community stakeholders, he stated.

Speaking at a training programme for Mission Shakti functionaries on the occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons at the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), Jamir said.

The Enforcement Directorate has raided locations in Hyderabad and Chennai in an alleged ketamine trafficking and money-laundering case, seizing ₹82.82 lakh cash and $18,000 in foreign currency. The probe, originating from NCB ketamine seizures in Bengaluru, is examining alleged proceeds routed through cash and hawala channels. The allegations remain under investigation.

In Hyderabad and Chennai, the Enforcement Directorate carried out simultaneous searches as part of an investigation into money laundering linked to an alleged ketamine manufacturing and trafficking network. The authorities seized cash, foreign currency, financial records and digital evidence as a result of the operation.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its probe into the trafficking of ketamine by conducting searches in Hyderabad and Chennai under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The operation pertains to an alleged organized network involved in the illegal manufacture and trade of ketamine, a psychotropic substance covered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The investigation was initiated on the basis of an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) registered on the basis of the prosecution complaint filed by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Bengaluru, the ED’s Bengaluru Zonal Office said. The money-laundering investigation is the latest of a series of narcotics probes into the alleged illegal manufacture and distribution of the drug ketamine.

The predicate offence relates to the seizure of 26.75 kilograms of ketamine from accused J. Kannan in Bengaluru on April 30, 2019. Additionally, on May 1, 2019, the investigators seized 25.45 kilograms of ketamine from an alleged clandestine laboratory reportedly operated by Shivaraj Urs, alias Mahesh Uthappa.

The Enforcement Directorate has widened its investigation into the alleged CGPSC recruitment scam, examining suspected kickbacks, financial transactions and possible laundering through CSR contributions. Former CGPSC chairman Taman Singh Sonwani is in ED custody following a production warrant. Investigators are examining whether ₹45 lakh to ₹47 lakh routed as CSR donations to Gramin Vikas Samiti was connected to alleged recruitment-related payments. The allegations remain under investigation and have not been established by a court.

The Enforcement Directorate has widened its probe into the alleged Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission recruitment scam to include suspected money laundering, illegal kickbacks, and Corporate Social Responsibility funds allegedly used to hide illicit transactions.

The CGPSC recruitment scam has taken a new turn with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) initiating a money-laundering probe into alleged financial irregularities in the 2020 and 2021 recruitment cycles. Authorities suspect hundreds of crores of corruption while probing financial transactions, illegal assets, and cash trails linked to the case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested the former Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) Chairman, a retired IAS officer Taman Singh Sonwani, after getting a production warrant. The agency was granted custody till July 31 by a Special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) Court in Raipur, allowing it to conduct custodial interrogation.

The probe has widened from allegations of manipulation of the exam and irregularities in recruitment, investigators said. Financial investigators are also probing money made from the alleged recruitment scam to determine whether it was laundered through structured transactions disguised as legitimate charitable and corporate funding.

Police in Sikar have opened an investigation after Army personnel Asharam alleged that he paid ₹18 lakh for a 150-square-yard residential plot after being promised a UIT lease. The complaint names Birbal Singh, Jagdish Prasad and Sultan Singh Ola and alleges the transaction dates back to 2015. The case was registered at Udyog Nagar Police Station following court intervention. The allegations remain under investigation, and no finding of guilt has been made.

An Army personnel has alleged he was duped of ₹18 lakh after being promised a UIT-approved plot lease in Rajasthan's Sikar district. Three accused have been booked, and an investigation has been initiated, police said.

Police have started an investigation in a case of ₹18 lakh plot fraud in Sikar after an Army personnel alleged that he was cheated on the promise of getting a lease for a residential plot. Following a court petition, the case has been registered at Udyog Nagar Police Station with three individuals named as accused. Sprouts News has learned that investigators are reviewing the allegations and supporting documents submitted by the complainant. 

An Indian Army soldier from Jhunjhunu district had accused Birbal Singh, Jagdish Prasad of Shivsinghpura and Sultan Singh Ola of Kudli of cheating him in a land deal of 2015 in a police complaint, Asharam said. Authorities have confirmed that the matter is under investigation, and no conclusions have been reached regarding the allegations.
