Apple launches iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in India with variable aperture camera system, A20 Pro chip, enhanced battery life and next-generation Apple Intelligence features.
Apple has officially announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with big upgrades to the cameras, performance, battery life, and AI features for premium smartphone users.
iPhone 18 Pro starts at Rs 1,64,900 in India, while the larger iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900, according to Apple's pricing. Both devices are available in a variety of storage sizes.
Customers can choose from 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB variants. The smartphones come in black, silver, glacier,r and a new burgundy finish that was launched this year.
You can pre-order both of the flagship models starting Sept. 12, with official availability beginning Sept. 18. Apple has included India in the first wave of its global sales.
Variable-Aperture Camera Headlines Major Hardware Upgrade
The camera system is one of the biggest changes. Both phones have a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable-aperture technology, a first for the iPhone family.
The new camera architecture has six laser-cut blades and four aperture settings. The system can automatically adjust the levels of aperture based on the light conditions and depth of field requirements.
For users seeking a little more creative flexibility, the aperture setting can also be switched manually. Apple has added professional photography controls, allowing direct control of shutter speed, white balance, and exposure monitoring.
Now there’s a built-in histogram for tracking exposure,e and Photographic Styles now include more texture and grain controls. They’re built for photography enthusiasts and content creators.
Video capabilities have been improved as well. Apple also introduced post-capture Cinematic effects for videos shot at up to 60 frames per second, and support for 4K Dolby Vision HDR time-lapse recording.
A20 Pro Chip Powers Performance and Apple Intelligence
Both devices are powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro processor with advanced 2nm manufacturing technology. The chipset has a six-core CPU and a seven-core GPU architecture.
The processor also includes a 32-core Neural Engine designed to power gaming, heavy applications, and more advanced on-device artificial intelligence tasks within the Apple ecosystem.
Apple says the A20 Pro has 50 per cent more memory bandwidth than the A19 Pro of the previous generation. The company also said graphics performance can be as much as 40 per cent faster.
Apple also redesigned the vapour chamber cooling system, with three times the surface area. The improvement is intended to improve long-term performance under heavy workloads and gaming.

Battery Life and Siri AI Differentiate the New Models
Battery life continues to be a big differentiator between the two phones. With only an eSIM, the iPhone 18 Pro Max can play video for up to 45 hours, vs 36 hours for the Pro.
Apple claims that the iPhone 18 Pro Max can get about seven hours of video playback from five minutes of wired charging. Charging speeds have also gotten better on both devices.
The iPhone 18 Pro is said to reach 50 per cent battery capacity in about 15 minutes via wired charging. On wireless charge, it can reach the same level in about 30 minutes.
Both phones are powered by iOS 27 and the next generation of Apple Intelligence. Siri AI, now in beta, can understand what is on screen and use personal contextual information.
Siri AI is able to perform actions inside supported applications, said Apple. Apple Intelligence introduces new capabilities such as Spatial Reframing, Extend, improved Clean Up tools, and photorealistic Image Playground creations.
Apple’s latest flagship strategy is to combine hardware innovation and artificial intelligence, Sprouts News reported. The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are the company’s most advanced iPhones to date.
Pre-orders will start on September 12, and sales will commence on September 18. Industry observers will be closely monitoring the response of consumers to the camera innovations, performance improvements of the A20 Pro, and the expanding AI ecosystem of Apple.
