The Maharashtra Government has renamed the Government Industrial Training Institute in Karmala as the Madandas Devi Government Industrial Training Institute while announcing a ₹5,400 crore investment over five years to modernise Industrial Training Institutes across the state.
The renaming of Karmala ITI and Maharashtra’s ITI modernisation plan formed the centrepiece of a ceremony held in Solapur district, where the Government Industrial Training Institute at Karmala was officially renamed in honour of the late Madandas Devi for his contributions to nation-building, education and student development.
The naming ceremony recognised the public service of the late Madandas Devi, who served as former Sah-Sarkaryavah of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Organisers said the institution would commemorate his contribution to education, social service and inspiring generations of students.
The event was attended by RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar, Maharashtra Minister for Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Mangal Prabhat Lodha, MLA Narayan Aba Patil, former MLA Ram Satpute, Karmala Municipal President Mohini Sawant, Rashmi Bagal, Director of Vocational Education and Training Satish Suryawanshi, Joint Director Chandrashekhar Dhekane, Joint Commissioner Sangeeta Khandare, Vocational Education and Training Officer Manoj Bidkar, Institution Management Committee Chairman Jitendra Rathi, and Madandas Devi’s elder brothers Khushaldas Devi and Radheshyam Devi.
Representatives from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, elected representatives, government officials, teachers, students and local citizens also attended the programme in significant numbers, reflecting broad participation in the ceremonial event.
₹5,400 Crore ITI Modernisation Plan Targets Skill Development
A video message from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was played during the programme. He stated that the late Madandas Devi had inspired students towards patriotism, education and social service, expressing confidence that the institution’s new name would motivate future generations.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha announced that the Maharashtra Government would provide ₹5,400 crore over the next five years to modernise Industrial Training Institutes throughout the state by upgrading infrastructure and introducing industry-oriented skill programmes.
According to Lodha, the investment aims to align vocational education with changing industrial requirements through advanced facilities, technology-driven learning environments and contemporary curricula designed to improve employment opportunities for students across Maharashtra.
The minister also announced that six new courses would be introduced at Karmala ITI within one year. He added that the government was considering collaboration with the Tata Group to establish modern technical streams in selected ITIs.
Lodha said efforts would be made to include Karmala ITI in the proposed Tata-supported initiative. He further indicated that technology-based courses would be introduced in phases across Maharashtra’s ITIs over the next six months.

Focus on Rural Youth and Industry-Ready Skills
Highlighting the government’s priorities, Lodha said quality skill education for rural youth remained a key objective. He stated that vocational training, entrepreneurship and technological education would be strengthened to prepare young people for employment as well as self-employment opportunities.
Referring to the legacy of the late Madandas Devi, the minister encouraged students to combine technical competence with character, discipline and national commitment while contributing positively to society through their professional careers.
RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar said Industrial Training Institutes should evolve beyond centres for vocational education into institutions promoting character, values, national commitment and practical skills among students preparing for future careers.
Ambekar observed that the late Madandas Devi dedicated his life to national and social service, encouraging students to draw inspiration from his work while cultivating a sense of responsibility towards society and the nation. He also shared personal recollections associated with Madandas Devi’s public life.
The announcements represent one of Maharashtra’s significant vocational education initiatives, combining institutional recognition with large-scale investment in skill infrastructure.
