The news was confirmed to India Today by his business manager, Siddharth Tiwari. Rawat initially responded to treatment, but the disease returned several months ago. He had been in hospital for the last few months, it is said, his condition getting badly worse in the last days before his death on Tuesday evening.
Pradeep Rawat's final months marked by cancer relapse
The actor's blood cancer had relapsed after a period of earlier recovery, says Siddharth Tiwari. He said Rawat had been under medical care for the past few months and spent the last several days of his life in critical condition before passing away Tuesday evening.
Tiwari also said the actor’s last rites are expected to be conducted on Wednesday, but no further information was immediately available regarding funeral arrangements. Even before the news was officially confirmed, there were reports that his health was not well, causing a lot of concern among his fans and colleagues.
Actor Yashpal Sharma, who played Rawat in Lagaan, paid tribute on Instagram Story. In his message, Sharma referred to Rawat as "Dharmatma of Ghajini and Deva of Lagaan" and expressed condolences and prayed for peace for the departed actor's soul.

Born on January 21, 1952, Pradeep Rawat made a name for himself as one of the most identifiable character actors in Indian cinema. He was best known for his role as Deva Singh Sodhi in the Oscar-nominated period drama Lagaan. However, He also gained a lot of popularity for his role as Ghajini Dharmatma in the Tamil blockbuster Ghajini.
Later, Rawat reprised the same role in the Hindi version of Ghajini, further cementing his status as an actor who could play intense and memorable villains. His performances were recognized across mainstream Hindi cinema and regional film industries over several decades.
