A special report on BJP’s infamous builder Parag Shah’s multi-crore scam was published on November 17 by ‘Sprouts’, highlighting the massive fraud involving Shah. However, this scam is just the tip of the iceberg, with numerous other cases still buried. Many affected residents have lodged complaints with the authorities and ‘Sprouts’, but there are multiple reports suggesting that these cases have been “managed” due to Shah’s connections. In this exclusive report, ‘Sprouts’ editor Unmesh Gujarathi brings attention to these significant discrepancies.
Parag Shah, through his company MAN Infraconstruction Limited (MICL), has committed several massive frauds, which have resulted in a drastic increase in his wealth. In 2019, Shah declared his net worth to be ₹500.62 crore. However, in 2024, he reported assets worth a staggering ₹3,300 crore in his affidavit to the Election Commission, marking a 575% increase in his wealth over the past five years, or an approximate six-to-seven-fold rise.
Residents have filed complaints against Shah for his fraudulent activities with key leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Deputy CM, and other authorities like MHADA and SRA. However, Sprouts’ sources close to “Sprouts’ suggest that Shah has been shielded by Amit Shah, preventing any substantial action.
Consequently, there is speculation that Shah will continue to engage in large-scale frauds, with the BJP’s central leaders, including Amit Shah, likely to offer him continued protection. However, several angry residents expressed to ‘Sprouts’ that Shah and his family will eventually face the wrath of the people, as justice cannot be avoided forever.
What is the issue?
Parag Kishorchandra Shah is contesting elections from the Ghatkopar (East) constituency as a BJP candidate. He has previously served as an MLA and is known as one of the richest candidates in Maharashtra. A builder by profession, Shah is also involved in major scams. ‘Sprouts’, an English newspaper based in Mumbai, published a special report titled ‘BJP’s Former MLA Involved in Massive FSI Scam Worth Thousands of Crores.”.
After the report was published, ‘Sprouts’ received an overwhelming response from Ghatkopar residents, who thanked the newspaper and editor Unmesh Gujarathi for exposing Shah’s fraudulent activities.
Shah’s Culture and Character?
After reading the report in ‘Sprouts’, Shah criticized editor Unmesh Gujarathi for using derogatory language, even calling him a “frog.” (mendhak ) This was not the first instance of Shah’s foul behavior; two years ago, he had referred to journalists as “dogs.” However, after orders from senior BJP leaders, Shah apologized publicly to the journalists.
Shah has also made derogatory remarks about Unmesh Gujarathi’s community, calling him a “Gujarati” in a negative light. In response, Gujarathi clarified that he is proud of his Hindu-Gujarati identity but that his true commitment lies in being honest in his profession and exposing injustice. He stated that unlike Shah, who betrayed his customers and committed large-scale fraud, ‘Sprouts’ is committed to holding the powerful accountable.
Impact on the Gujarati Community
Victimized residents have also accused Shah of engaging in significant corruption. They claim that his wealth was amassed through deceitful practices and that he was given a BJP ticket because of his wealth rather than any genuine contribution. They also pointed out that if Shah had contested from any other party, his deposit would have been confiscated, a fact that highlights his questionable rise in politics.

The Political Backdrop
Prakash Mehta, a former MLA from this constituency who served six consecutive terms, played a significant role in building the BJP’s strength in the area. It was on this foundation that fraudulent builders like Parag Shah were able to get elected in 2019. Mehta also expressed regret over how Shah’s corrupt practices have tarnished the reputation of the Gujarati community and the Sangh Parivar.
Threats and Legal Action
Parag Shah has reportedly threatened ‘Sprouts’ editor Unmesh Gujarathi, but the team remains undeterred. They are preparing to file a defamation lawsuit against Shah for the threats and the videos he has released to damage their reputation.
Risk to the Editor’s Life
Unmesh Gujarathi, the staff, and their families have also expressed concerns over their safety, as Shah may attempt to frame them in false cases. If any harm befalls Gujarathi, the responsibility will lie with Shah, according to ‘Sprouts’. Attempts to contact Shah for his comments went unanswered.
