Tihar Jail, India’s most secure prison, has once again come under scrutiny after shocking revelations about the VIP treatment given to Sahara Group chairman Subrata Roy during his imprisonment. Former Tihar Jail PRO Sunil Gupta has made explosive claims in a two-hour-long video podcast, exposing the luxurious arrangements provided to Roy inside the high-security prison.
According to Gupta, Subrata Roy was not treated like an ordinary prisoner but enjoyed a life of privilege inside Tihar. He was allegedly provided access to expensive liquor, gourmet food, and even air hostesses who visited him. The revelations have raised serious concerns about corruption and favoritism within the prison administration.

Gupta further alleged that when complaints about these special arrangements were taken to the then Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, no action was taken. The reason? Gupta claims that Subrata Roy had given a ₹50 crore bribe to Kejriwal’s party as political funding. This claim, if true, could have serious political and legal repercussions.
• Liquor Bottles Found in Tihar Jail!
One of the most shocking aspects of Gupta’s claims is that whisky bottles were found in Subrata Roy’s barrack. Instead of treating him like a prisoner, the Tihar Jail administration allegedly surrendered to Roy’s influence and granted him luxurious privileges.
While the Supreme Court had permitted Roy to use video conferencing to facilitate business transactions and repay investors, Gupta claims that many illegal activities were happening behind the scenes. He stated that the jail administration even suggested moving Roy outside the prison for his video calls, under the pretext of legal work.

• No Action Despite Complaints
Gupta revealed that multiple meetings with the Director General (DG) of Prisons were held regarding the misuse of power inside Tihar. However, despite repeated complaints, no strict action was taken. Even after personally informing CM Kejriwal about these irregularities, Gupta said that the issue was ignored.

Payment to Tihar Jail:
In 2014, Sahara Group chief Subrata Roy paid Rs 1.23 crore to Tihar Jail authorities for the special privileges he enjoyed over the past year in a special cell.
Impact of the Payment:
Authorities stated that this amount could cover the expenses of 200 inmates for a year.
Shift to Ordinary Cell:
Roy was moved to an ordinary cell in November 2014 after availing these privileges.
