Vijaykumar Harishchandre is a multifaceted journalist, writer, photographer, presenter, and filmmaker with over three decades of experience across journalism, visual storytelling, literature, culture, and environmental conservation.

Based in rural Maharashtra, Harishchandre has built a distinctive identity through his extensive work in print journalism and photography. His articles and photographs have been published in reputed publications including Dainik Bhaskar, The Indian Express, DNA, Loksatta and several regional-language newspapers.

His work extends beyond conventional reporting. He has extensively documented literature, art, culture, history, spirituality, religion, society and environmental issues, combining field experience with detailed research. His long association with Jejuri allowed him to closely study the religious, historical, cultural, spiritual, and geographical dimensions of Lord Khandoba and the traditions surrounding the shrine.

As a photographer, Harishchandre has travelled extensively across Maharashtra and several other regions, documenting historic monuments, ancient sites, folk traditions and lesser-known aspects of India’s cultural heritage. His fieldwork has also taken him to Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Nepal, including the renowned Pashupatinath temple.

He has explored the cultural connections between Khandoba traditions and wider South Asian religious practices. His research and photography have covered subjects ranging from the work of German researchers studying Khandoba to the Pandharpur Wari and Maharashtra’s rich folk traditions.

Harishchandre has also contributed to the film and visual-media sector through still photography, writing, narration and direction. His innovative concept of “Nisargpuja” (Worship of Nature) reflects his commitment to environmental conservation. Through festivals, pilgrimages and folk traditions, he has sought to communicate the importance of protecting nature and preserving ecological heritage.

His journey represents a rare convergence of journalism, photography, writing, narration, filmmaking and nature conservation. His camera captures stories that might otherwise remain unseen, while his writing places those stories within their historical, cultural and social context.

Even after three decades, Harishchandre continues to explore new subjects, investigate social issues, document heritage and work towards future film projects.

Vijaykumar Harishchandre is a self-made voice from rural India who has transformed his passion for journalism, photography and research into a lifelong mission to document people, places, traditions and the diverse cultural heritage of society.
