Bhiwandi-Wada Highway Corruption: Bombshell Allegations Surface

During a pivotal press conference, the Bhiwandi Janandolan Samiti presented documented evidence of severe financial irregularities. The investigation team alleged massive over-billing by Eagle Infrastructure, the firm handling the 803-crore rupee highway project. They accused the company of fraudulent billing to the tune of 100 crore rupees. “We are exposing paper-based corruption with documented proof,” stated key leader Pramod Pawar. He demanded a criminal investigation into the alleged bogus billing practices uncovered by their probe.

Government’s Action Plan: A Roadmap for Repair

Under public pressure, the administration has committed to an immediate, transparent action plan. The Construction Ministry has outlined a detailed schedule for highway repair work. Work will commence from October 4, 2025, at multiple critical locations along the Bhiwandi-Palghar route. This includes stabilization work at Angaon and immediate pothole-patching at Varet. A dedicated lane from Ambadi to Shelar is promised by February 2026. Junior Engineers will be present at all sites to ensure quality and continuous progress on the highway project.

Blacklisting and White Paper on Corruption

In a significant move, the government has provided a written guarantee to blacklist Jijau Construction. The company’s director, fraud Nilesh Bhagwan Sambare, was implicated in fraudulent activities. Furthermore, the Public Works Department will release a white paper on the corruption and mismanagement plaguing the highway’s maintenance. An independent committee led by district officials will be formed for continuous monitoring. This ensures stringent quality control and oversight for all future infrastructure work.

Eagle Infrastructure Under Scrutiny for Funds

The Sprouts News Investigation Team (SIT) analyzed the claims against Eagle Infrastructure. The company had previously halted work, citing a lack of funds. The protest leaders debunked this, presenting evidence of the contractor receiving an additional 100 crore rupees. This revelation raises serious questions about fund utilization and project delays. Pramod Pawar has called for punitive and criminal action against the firm for allegedly deceiving the public and authorities.

“A Victory for the People, Not for Me”

The 86-minute press conference was emotionally charged, with leaders dedicating the success to the community. “This is not my victory; it is 100% the people’s victory,” Pramod Pawar declared. He credited every individual who joined the protest and supported the movement online. The leaders detailed the “dark side of the highway’s hijacking”—corruption, delays, and the systematic siphoning of public funds. They vowed to continue their fight for total transparency in public works and governance.

Broader Implications and Future Roadmap

This victory transcends immediate road repairs, marking a shift towards accountability in Maharashtra’s infrastructure development. The success has ignited hope for reduced travel time and fewer accidents on the vital Bhiwandi-Wada corridor. The Bhiwandi Janandolan Samiti has pledged strict follow-up to ensure all government assurances are met. Their focus remains on securing excellent, pothole-free roads as a cornerstone for the region’s comprehensive development, framing this struggle as a fight for public self-respect.
