Thackeray’s command to the new DCP
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has initiated strong steps against growing unauthorised constructions in Navi Mumbai. Thackeray has decided to entrust the responsibility of anti-encroachment and unauthorised construction drive to newly appointed Deputy Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rahul Gethe, the Special Investigation Team of Sprouts has learned.
Ganesh Naik and his family members have been controlling the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation for the last 30 years. A massive corruption mushroomed in the last three decades under the Naik family and the unauthorised constructions proliferated. Resultantly today the satellite township bears a pathetic look. As such local people have also gone against the Naik family and its influence is eroding.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had initiated strong steps to reign in the corrupt and dominating activities of Ganesh Naik earlier too. Now with the appointment of Dr. Rahul Gethe as the DMC, the sands under the feet of the Naik family are shifting. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray dropped a bombshell by inviting Dr. Gethe to ‘Matoshree’ within one month after his appointment as the DMC and issued the orders that he should head the anti-encroachment cell.
Thackeray has instructed Dr. Gethe to clear the footpaths for the pedestrians and remove unauthorised hawkers and unauthorised constructions with bulldozers. But Thackeray has also reportedly told him to follow BMC’s former DMC Govind Ragho Khairnar and not the present Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath while removing unauthorised constructions, reliable sources said.
