Gauri Palve Death Case: Family Alleges Murder, Points Finger at Husband Anant Garje and Relatives
The death of 28-year-old dental surgeon Dr. Gauri Palve has sparked serious allegations after her family rejected the initial suicide theory. In a detailed complaint to the Worli police, her father, Ashok Palve, claimed she suffered violent assault and strangulation, pointing to visible injuries inconsistent with self-harm. The family accuses husband Anant Garje and his relatives of murder and a deliberate cover-up, citing contradictory statements and failure to follow mandatory legal procedures. Police have initiated a deeper inquiry.

Gauri Palve, a 28-year-old dental surgeon at KEM Hospital, was found dead on November 22. Her Worli residence became the site of the tragedy. Police initially received information suggesting she died by suicide. The circumstances, however, immediately aroused her family’s suspicion. They noticed visible injuries on her body inconsistent with hanging. This prompted their demand for a murder investigation.

Family’s Harrowing Account and Allegations of a Cover-Up
Ashok Palve presented a chilling narrative to the authorities. He stated that his daughter showed signs of a violent assault. “If it was a suicide due to a marital dispute, a single ligature mark would be visible,” Palve asserted. He reported seeing bruises on her chest, head, and body. This evidence strongly suggests she was beaten and strangled, not a case of self-harm.
He further accused Anant Garje of a calculated deception. Garje initially blamed the death on medication side effects. He then changed his story, telling Gauri’s mother she had hanged herself. The family questions why Garje, a politically connected and educated man, bypassed standard procedure. He failed to immediately call the police for an inquest panchnama. This delay raises critical questions about evidence preservation.

A System Under Scrutiny: Political Pressure and Police Response
The family alleges that Anant Garje used his political influence to torment Gauri. “He constantly threatened her, saying ‘I will not let this go,’” Ashok Palve claimed. His daughter remained silent, enduring the abuse due to their modest background. The family’s anguish was palpable during Gauri’s final rites. Palve made a heartfelt public appeal, warning parents against alliances with powerful, wealthy families.
He specifically pleaded with the Honourable Chief Minister for justice. His complaint names Anant Garje, his sister Sheetal Garje, and brother Ajay Garje as co-conspirators. He alleges all three collectively strangled his daughter. Currently, only Anant is in custody. The other two accused remain at large, deepening the family’s distress and suspicion.
Legal Proceedings and the Expanding Investigation
The Sewri Sessions Court recently addressed the case with strictness. The court raised strong objections as the Investigating Officer was absent. It refused to let the present police officer speak on the matter. This highlights procedural lapses in a high-profile investigation. The court granted police three days of custody for Anant Garje, shorter than the requested ten days.
The public prosecutor had argued for extended custody. They need to locate a crucial document concerning another woman. This document allegedly mentions Anant Garje in relation to an abortion. Finding this evidence and apprehending the absconding siblings are key investigation goals. The trio is booked under BNS Sections 108 and 85 for abetment to suicide and cruelty.
Formal Demands and a Brother’s Corroboration
The Palve family has made specific demands to ensure a transparent probe. They have urgently requested the seizure of all CCTV footage. This includes recordings from the building’s lifts, staircase, and main entrance on the day of the incident. They also demand that the woman with whom Anant had an extramarital affair be named as a co-accused in the case.
Gauri’s maternal uncle, Shrinivas, corroborated the family’s stance. He firmly stated, “Gauri did not die by suicide.” He detailed how Anant Garje first called Gauri’s father, then her mother, with conflicting information. He questioned why Garje did not rush Gauri to a hospital if she was found hanging. The uncle also alleged that the abuse began just two months after marriage.
The family claims Anant started harassing Gauri after she discovered his affair. This investigative report by the Sprouts News Special Investigation Team (SIT) reveals a complex case. The official autopsy report will be critical in determining the exact cause of death. Until then, the Mumbai Police face immense pressure to deliver justice for Dr Gauri Palve.
