The Enforcement Directorate has conducted fresh searches at eight locations in Kerala as part of its money laundering investigation into transactions involving Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL) and Exalogic Solutions. Investigators are examining alleged ₹2.78 crore payments made by CMRL to the now-defunct company linked to Veena T, daughter of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The agency is scrutinising whether the payments recorded as IT consultancy expenses represented genuine services. The latest searches indicate that financial and documentary evidence collection remains ongoing.
CMRL Case Heats Up As ED Conducts Fresh Searches Across 8 Kerala Locations
In the CMRL money laundering case involving Exalogic Solutions and Veena T, the Enforcement Directorate conducted fresh searches at eight places in Kerala.
The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday conducted fresh searches at eight locations across the state in connection with a money laundering case, officials said.
The searches are being conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act or PMLA and relate to alleged financial transactions involving Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd.
The investigation is related to the alleged Rs 2.78 crore payments by CMRL to the now-defunct company of Veena T, Exalogic Solutions, allegedly for IT consultancy services.
Earlier, the federal agency had questioned Veena T, daughter of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, after searches at places linked to her in June.
The latest operation is a part of the ongoing investigation into transactions between CMRL and Exalogic Solutions, with investigators probing the financial trail and related records, officials said.
The allegations pertain to payments made when there were questions over whether Exalogic Solutions actually provided the consultancy services to CMRL as stated. "
Central agencies are concentrating their investigations on Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL) for transactions with Exalogic Solutions.
Veena T is associated with Exalogic Solutions, which is defunct. The probe is to ascertain if the payments recorded as consultancy expenses were genuine commercial transactions.
Earlier, searches were held at places connected to Veena T and the larger financial probe, after which she was questioned by the ED in connection with the case.
Reports regarding the ongoing CMRL-related proceedings stated that the agency had also searched a bank locker linked to Veena T during the earlier phase of the investigation.
The latest searches show the ED is still collecting documents and financial evidence while investigating the alleged transactions and the circumstances surrounding them.

Kerala High Court Ruling Shapes Investigation
The agency’s decision follows the Kerala High Court allowing the money laundering probe involving CMRL to continue after a legal challenge to the ED’s jurisdiction.
Earlier searches in May had extended to locations linked to Pinarayi Vijayan's family, Veena T, and people linked to CMRL, expanding the ambit of evidence collection.
In May, reports said the Kerala High Court rejected a plea filed by the CMRL to stop the ED probe, clearing the agency to continue with its proceedings.
The case has drawn political attention to the past of Pinarayi Vijayan as Kerala Chief Minister and the involvement of his daughter Veena T.
However, allegations under investigation have not been proven in a court of law to be criminal wrongdoing, and the ED’s probe is still subject to legal and evidentiary scrutiny.
What The CMRL Case Means Next
The Prevention of Money Laundering Act provides the ED with the power to investigate suspected proceeds of crime and related financial activity subject to the statutory requirements governing such proceedings.
The latest searches are yet another development in a case that combines financial investigation, corporate transactions, legal proceedings and considerable political interest in Kerala, for Sprouts News.
The initial focus will continue to be on the documents, banking records, transaction trails and explanations obtained during the searches as investigators evaluate the charges against CMRL and Exalogic.
Further questioning, additional searches, or other legal steps could follow depending on the evidence gathered, but the persons and entities concerned retain their rights under applicable law.
