BMW has launched the X1 LWB in India at a starting price of Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The launch further expands the luxury SUV portfolio of the German automaker. Interestingly, the new variant is Rs 1 lakh cheaper than the current market-available standard wheelbase version.

The launch is more focused on rear seat comfort, which has been a growing consideration in the buying decisions of India’s premium vehicle segment. BMW has turned the X1 LWB into a practical luxury proposition for customers who need more passenger space.

BMW X1 LWB Gains Larger Dimensions and Extended Wheelbase

The BMW X1 LWB is bigger than the standard X1. The SUV is 116 mm longer and 11 mm taller, with its wheelbase increased by 108 mm.

BMW says the extended proportions have resulted in better cabin space, especially for those in the back. Rear-seat legroom has been increased by 109 mm compared with the standard-wheelbase version, the company said.

It may be bigger, but the overall design is still very much like the regular X1. The SUV still retains the twin-pod LED headlamps, BMW's trademark kidney grille and L-shaped LED taillights.

The exterior design retains the same proportions as the X1 range but has a more spacious interior package. The model is offered in Mineral White, Carbon Black, Nite Dusk Blue and Skyscraper Gray from BMW.

The SUV is sitting on 18-inch alloy wheels, which add to its premium look while being true to the design language that is used across BMW’s newest range of luxury vehicles.

Engine, Performance and Market Positioning

The SUV has a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The dual-screen setup is part of BMW’s modern cockpit design philosophy.

The powertrain is still focused on balancing performance, efficiency, and everyday usability. BMW has stuck with the same mechanical package but focused on passenger comfort and interior space.

The launch is part of a wider industry trend as luxury manufacturers bring long-wheelbase models to the market designed especially for markets like India and China where the rear seat is still a priority.

BMW X1 LWB is entering the competitive world of luxury compact SUVs with a strong emphasis on space, technology and value positioning, according to Sprouts News.

With its bigger size, extra space in the back seat, long list of premium features and competitive pricing, the BMW X1 LWB is likely to attract buyers who want a more spacious luxury SUV experience without moving up a segment.
