“The White House rolled out the red carpet for Xi at a time when Americans are still paying higher prices for fuel, electricity and groceries and concerns about China’s trade practices remain," the lawmakers said.
In a joint statement, the senators said President Trump had “systematically hollowed out the foundations of American competitiveness” and had not challenged Beijing on issues that impact US economic and security interests.
They also said the administration opted for the route of diplomatic pageantry over confronting China over trade disputes, technology issues, military matters and broader geopolitical tensions involving American allies.
